Rust Spots on Dishes? No more!!!

I got a new set of dishes for Christmas.  This is huge!  For those of you who don't know me, I had been using dishes that used to belong to my husband's grandmother.  They were Fiestaware, which is very pretty, but they were all chipped and tired looking.  My fabulous mother surprised me with a delightful set of white dishes.  LOVE them!  They go with...well, everything!  After using them daily since Christmas, I noticed what looked like a few rust spots on the dishes.  Then I closely inspected the dishwasher.  WHAT???  How did I not notice that the prongs are losing the coating, and rust is on the tips????  Well, there HAD to be a solution, right?  So...off to Amazon!  I purchased 2 sets (20 tips per set) of these prong toppers.  The reviews of other products indicated that they were too short and fell off in the dishwasher.  These prong toppers are longer, and WOW are they a booger to get on!  40 tips is not enough to cover all of my rusted prongs, but I figured I would start with that and see how I like them.  I have to say that so far, I'm impressed!   Below are before and after shots of the prongs, along with their packaging.  Here is a link to the product: Dishwasher Prong Tips

Method All-Purpose Natural Surface Cleaner

Well, until today, I would have told you that the best general cleaner for the kitchen was Lysol Antibacterial Kitchen Cleaner.  While it is still a super product, I was tempted today to try something else.  I have to say that I am drawn to cleaners with a pleasant smell.  I have always enjoyed the smell of the Lysol cleaner.  Not a harsh smell, but a fresh and clean one!  I also feel quite confident in the fact that Lysol is truly going to kill 99% of the germs out there.  While not a germaphobe, I am very careful in the kitchen and REALLY want to make sure I especially kill any germs from raw meats.

Ok, so fast forward to today... The other day, my sweet husband told me that (according to Consumer Reports) the best cleaner for granite is Method All-Purpose Natural Surface Cleaner.  Hmmm.... what's a girl to do?!?!  Gotta try it!  I happened to be in Target (By the way, DO NOT go to Target the Saturday before school starts!!!!!!!!  MADHOUSE!)  I steered right down the middle of the store and noticed the display of various Method cleansers.  I grabbed the one I was looking for and then noticed a the Daily Granite product.  Of course, I grabbed both!!! :)

I have to say that as soon as I got home, I noticed something sticky on my countertops.  I knew just what to do!  I was so happy that the Pink Grapefruit smell was YUMMY!  The sticky substance came right up!  As I was typing this, my youngest daughter brought me a tag from something recently bought.  It had something sticky on it.  She said, "Hey, why don't we try this?"  I reached for this cleaner, and the tag was clean in a flash!  I cannot believe what I am about to tell you!  Lysol Kitchen Cleaner is #2!!!!!!!!!!!!  I LOVE this new cleaner!  I love that it's super safe around pets and children.  It lists counters, tile, stone, wood, and glass as the types of surfaces it cleans.  One thing to note is that it is NOT an antibacterial cleaner...went to the website and asked if it actually kills germs.  Waiting on a response.  I do notice that there is an antibacterial kitchen cleaner.  May have to try that!!!

Let me know what you think!

Julia

Well, just as I'd feared..

Hi Julia,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write to us and for your interest in method. Our all purpose cleaner is a great cleaner and degreaser. It kills germs that way a clean, dry non-porous surfaces kills germs by not leaving food for bugs. But if you're handling raw meat you'll want to try our antibacterial kitchen cleaner. It kills 99.9% of common household bacteria.

Hope that helps. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or email me directly anytime.
Kind Regards,

Felicia

PJ's Skinny Organic Burrito - Mixed Review

So, a friend suggested that I try these burritos from Costco.  Always up for a challenge, I decided to give it a go!

These are packed with protein and have little fat.  My husband and I both had one.  Microwave AND oven directions are included.  Which do you think I picked?  Yes, of course...microwave!!!  After nuking each for 3 minutes total, we sat down to eat.  The size was perfect for a meal.  I can't imagine eating 2 of them!  As I've experienced with other microwaved tortilla items, the edges were a little tough.  There is a good mixture of chicken, beans, cheese, rice, and bell peppers.  Overall, I would give these a 6/10.  They were pretty good, but definitely not outstanding.  The next time I try them, I will bake them and see if that makes a difference.  They were very filling!  This would be a great option to take to work with you.  Much better for you than grabbing a burger and fries, although your co-workers may not appreciate the after effects if you have a sensitivity to Mexican food!!!

Tile Floor - Need Suggestions!

Ok...I admitted in my previous post that my tile floors never truly feel like they are clean.  I've tried multiple cleaners, hot water, vinegar, ammonia... anything I can think of!  What do you use to clean your tile floors?  Oh, and while I'm asking for suggestions... who has a mop that they truly like?

Hardwood Floors!

A few weeks ago, my husband noticed that our hardwood floors were looking a little tired!  He went to a local reputable flooring company and discussed the cleaning process for our floors!  I have to admit that my usual cleaning for hardwoods consisted of vacuuming and the occasional Swiffer Wet Mop (Hardwood Floor Cleaning).  The hardwoods just don't seem to get as dirty as my tile floors, and I figured the less water on them, the better.

Well, when my hubby came home, he was armed with the Bona Hardwood Floors Mop.  The flooring experts told him that I should NEVER use a water-based product on the floors.  Oops!!!  Even when you use Murphy's Wood Floor Cleaner, you mix it with water, right?  I have to say I was VERY skeptical of this new mop!  I mean, come on.... what's the difference between this and my Swiffer?!?!  Well, being the good wife I am (ha!), I tried it.  Wow!  No streaks, and my floors didn't have the film on them that was there previously!  I was able to go over my floors in about 15 minutes, and I was done!  The pad goes in the washing machine, so it can be reused.  I was hooked!!!  When my wonderful (and missed) neighbors moved from the house next door, I even used it on their empty house before my new (and hopefully fabulous) neighbors moved in!  I really like this system.  I have used it 3 times, and I'm just as pleased each time I try it!

Mildew No More!!!

Shower Saver!!!  Best product I've found in a LONG, LONG, time!!!  Have I got your attention?  How many of you feel that you are engaged in a battle with mold and mildew in your shower?  I, too, was in this fight until I found this product: DampRid Mildew Stain Remover Plus Blocker.  This products works to truly fight mold and mildew!  To clean your tile, you spray this product all over the tile and grout, allowing it to sit for about 5-10 minutes.  Then go back and scrub your tile and grout.  A toothbrush is helpful in the grout!!!  (I recommend Magic Eraser on the glass!) After your shower is clean, allow the tile and grout to completely dry.  After it is dry, you spray a layer of the DampRid Mildew Stain Remover Plus Blocker over the tile and grout (not on the glass).  Allow it to dry.  You reapply the layer of cleanser to a dry shower once a week.  You only have to scrub the shower every 1 1/2 to 2 months!  Try it... I have recommended this to several people, and they have all LOVED it!  This product is not available locally, so I usually order several bottles at a time from Drugstore.com.

Purpose of my blogging
